Google warns: 150 harmful applications you need to delete immediately from the phone

Cyber security software company Avast reported in recent weeks on a fraud campaign called Ultima SMS. According to Avast, 151 apps were part of the Friday SMS campaign. These fake Android applications are disguised as legitimate tools, from photo editors and camera filters to the Games and QR code scans, broadcast news.

Their goal is to get victims to register for expensive SMS services. Anything can happen overnight. Before you know it, you lost money, which you may not be able to recover.

False Android applications downloaded by millions

If you install a Ultima app SMS, he'll check your location immediately, IMI and your phone number to understand which code of area and language to use for fraud. When you open the app, you will see a screen in your language that requires you to write down your phone number and/or email address.

After you write the information, the app will register you for a Friday SMS service that could cost over $40 a month. At this point, the app will display more subscription options or simply stop working. Then you will be taxed every week by the ministry of fraud.

Admittedly, this is an extremely dangerous situation. You might think you're safe or you're too smart to fall behind a cheating app like this. The problem is that's what everyone thinks. These cheating applications are a big problem that can affect anyone. How much attention do you really pay when you download and install a new app? That's why people are downloading these fake Android applications to Google Play, as Avast explains:

The discovered applications are essentially identical in the structure, which means the same basic structure of the app is reused many times. These copies have been disguised as original apps through well-built app profiles at Play Store. The profiles display attractive photos and attractive descriptions of apps along with high estimates. However, after closer inspection, they tend to have numerous negative comments from users who have identified apps as fraud or have fallen prey to fraud.

Furthermore, the Android false apps are being promoted on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and other platforms. These social media networks can't catch everything, so it's up to you to assess the danger before you click on an ad for an attractive app.

Android equipment users have already downloaded these applications more than 10.5 million times. The good news is that Google has since stopped any app that was part of this specific campaign.
