Regarding the statement of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Jelal Sfeqla, recorded in the news edition at “, Kosova”, on November 8, 2021.
After late Luan Berisha's sister asked government officials for information about the murder of his brother, Minister Jalal Svechla, only after she left gave the clarification to Prime Minister Kurti, saying that “Luan Berisha committed suicide”.
I as a lawyer, but also the family of the late Luan Berisha -- such a statement -- do we not appreciate the harmful and unprofessive.
We consider that such public statements by state officials, and in particular the Ministry of Internal Affairs, for cases that are still in the phase of investigations do not contribute to professional and independent investigations, as well as intelligence of criminal acts and their perpetrators.
Such statements only complicate and make a fair and uninhibited investigation, especially when a minister musters up courage to make the legal qualifications of a work. This is the exclusive competence of the prosecution body, the prosecutor's case, respectively.
As a family representative, I invite all, indiscriminately, to refrain from reporting on cases that are in the investigation stage because of the sensitivity these cases have and because of the damage that family members may cause.
We also invite the State Prosecutor to react to such a statement and not allow the quality of investigations to be influenced by political statements by state officials or any other person.
