Xavi Hernandez will have less than 10m euros to spend on reinforcement of the team in the transitional term of January, after replacing Ronald Coeman in the coach's post in Barcelona.
Barca's chief executive, Ferran Reverter, had said earlier this year that the club would have 20m euros available for the purchase of new players in winter, given the 97m-euro limit for expenditures La League had allocated for this season.
But things have changed since then.
Ansu Fate and Pedri have signed new luxury agreements, meaning Barca's allowed limit for spending within the season has been markedly spent.
But the price of Koeman's dismissal and Xav's appointment is not expected to have much impact on the club's future spending, according to ESPN sources.
Barcelona is believed to have to pay up to 12m euros in compensation to Koeman for the premature interruption of the agreement, while the Xavi release clause from Al-Saddi cost 5m euros.
Due to major losses in the past two years, the limit of 97m euros was set for the Barcelona season.
According to ESPN sources, of those 97m euros the limit has dropped to only 10m euros.
Xavi wants to strengthen the team with an attacker in January, and the club must secure any player with loan deals to meet the new coach's request.
