Syla sharply criticises police director who did not offer sufficient competition for KLA leaders

Journalist Valon Syla has reacted to the social network Facebook after reporting that Kosovo Police Director Samedin Mehmeti has not offered sufficient guarantees at the Special Court for Freedom Protection of former KLA leaders currently being held in custody at The Hague.

After reporting yesterday about offering insufficient assurances by KP director Samedin Mehmeti, journalist Syla has asked whether “this state is Kosovo, or i EULEX”.

If our Chief of Police can't vouch for Thaci and Wessel, who this guarantees. For me, for ordinary citizens, or for minorities. Who the boss is guaranteeing. What a professionality this is, guaranteed for some, and for some not” wrote Syla, among other things.

He has questioned whether Kosovo Police Director Samedin Mehmeti is observing someone else's orders.

According to yesterday's report by news.net, Mehmet has not answered in detail whether Kosovo police, which he is running, could meet specific conditions required by the Specialised Chambers in The Hague, be ready and monitor the accused in case of their return to Kosovo to defend themselves in freedom.

The KP director's action has also been commented on by the defense of the accused, by the Pre-Precipative Procedure Judge and the Appeals Judges Panel, in reviewing the requirements for the release of former KLA leaders from custody.
