The 58-year-old Dutch man was fired by the Catalun giant on Wednesday night, after the 1-0 defeat by Rayo Vallecano, broadcast Periscope.
The pressure was rising on the club to divide the streets with Koeman, after a devastating start of the season.
But with the contract active until June, some thought Barcelona's leaders would wait until agreement was concluded to avoid compensation.
