The Kosovo delegation was on its way to Belgrade, where it was due to participate in the amateur World Boxing Championship, starting tomorrow.
The International Box Federation reacted to this issue, AIBA with a letter to the Serbian Boxing Federation, and then with official media communities, demanding that Kosovo be treated the same as other countries.
The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports has also reacted to the issue now, strongly condemning this decision by Serbian authorities.
“The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports strongly condemns today's decision of Serbian aurorities, which prevented our athletes from entering their territory because of state symbols in uniforms. With this move, Serbia as host of the World Boxing Championships has violated the right of athletes and the right of the Kosovo Boxing Federation for participation in champions, as defined by international sports organisations. The Kosovo Box Federation is a full member of the World Boxing Federation (AIBA)”, said in the statement.
On the other hand, the MKRS said it has submitted written requests to the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Serbia to take the necessary measures.
“Seek from the competent bodies of Serbia's state to take necessary measures and react quickly so that our contestants can arrive in time for participation in the World Championship, which will take place from October 24th to November 6th. We have also addressed this request in writing to Serbia's Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Vanja Udovicić”, reported among other things in the MKRS report.
