The first typhoon research institute was established in Japan.
The Typhoon Scientific and Technological Research Centre, founded at the National University”Yokohama” in Canagawa, southeastern Tokyo, will gather experts and academics from government and private institutions.
The centre, which is first in Japan, will aim to assess the damage that typhoons can cause and determine the framework of measures that can be taken.
The centre will also lead research into the exploitation of typhoons as a renewable energy source, in line with the Japanese government's goal of zero carbon by 2050.
The chief of this institute, Hironorti Fudeyasu, said that “I feel possible from the huge damage caused by the typhoon”.
“We aim to co-operate with many researchers to conduct rigorous studies and present results in the community. I see the light before”, he added.
The organisation includes academics from many universities, such as the Institute of Meteorology Research and RICEN Research Centre, supported by the government, and experts from” Kawasaki Heavy Industries” and”Delotte Tohmatsu”.
