Kosovo citizens will even this year remain without visa liberalisation.
The rapporteur for Kosovo in the European Parliament, Violet Von Cremon, has declared that the likelihood of visa liberalisation for Kosovo during Portugal's presidency is very small.
Von Croamon says about RTV Dukagini, unfortunately, that no progress has been made due to the scepticism of several European countries.
Even before the German Council presidency began, I, along with numerous colleagues from the European Parliament, tried to get the topic on the agenda and now unfortunately, have to declare that we have not been able to make any progress here because of the still existing resistance of member states. Of course, I hope very much now that the Portuguese presidency will deal with the issue, but because of the ongoing state of emergency caused by the pandemic, I do not expect decisive progress until the second half of 2021. The Kosovo government must convince sceptical member states like France and the Netherlands to push forward the visa liberalisation process. Of course, I did much more work in fighting corruption and organised crime”, Von Croamon said.
On the other hand, EU officials remain silent following statements by Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, who said he would not recognise Kosovo until 2022.
Peter Stano says it is not a matter of the EU to comment on any statement by politicians in the region.
The European Union's “Role is not to comment on any statement made by politicians or individual officials in the region or the interpretation of these remarks in the media. We are focusing on a concrete job to help Kosovo and Serbia reach a final, comprehensive and legally binding agreement”, Stano has said.
The noble Halimi analyst has commented on these developments.
The issue of visa liberalisation does not concern any particular presidency. We have also been in this process when Croatians or Germans or other friendly countries had the EU presidency, but liberalisation has not occurred”, Halimi said among other noble ones.
