For recent flooding in some areas of Kosovo, the Fire Brigade in Pristina was also employed.
Within just two days this brigade has intervened in over 20 cases of rescue for residents, evacuation of water, and extinguishing fires.
The commander of the Fire Brigades in Pristina, Latif Zeka, has said that in recent days it has been a serious situation from the floods and has been interviewed with all the capacities this brigade has had.
It's a difficult situation, all of us from Friday until today have had 23 cases, of which there have been various cases, but especially for absorption of water in ten countries. So, we've been interviewed for absorption, rescue of residents from homes, where we've drawn to two houses in Fushe Kosovo, which have been blocked by citizens. We also pulled cars that were left in the water. Fire in the house we had a case, water supply, as well as door openings, elevator openings, fire extinguishing in car”, he said.
Commander Zeka has also told of the difficulties that have occurred these days and the small number of firefighters, along with the services required in the event of intervention in Pristina.
He said he needed over 100 firefighters.
We had a hard time last night in a hospital that filled the basement with water. We had a total of four pumps to draw that water, but a lot of running water was equal to coming in water and drawing water. Does the brigade have enough capacity? No, only Pristina must have 200 firefighters, while at the moment there are only 98 working and operating”, he said.
Of the recent floods, the most affected areas are from Dukagjini, Drenica and Fushe Kosova.
It is learned that significant material damage has been done in homes, infrastructure, businesses and agriculture.
