The project will be implemented by January 2024 and has a budget of 7m euros, Klan Kosova reports.
The EU is currently investing about 50m euros in pre-Anterial Assistance Tool funds (IPA) in Kosovo rule of law.
The main focus of the project is to improve co-ordination in the justice sector and support in implementing the Law Rule Sector Strategy. A draft of this strategy has been put into consultation on 18 January. The EU and other international partners have supported the initiative.
The “program aims to reform the justice system in Kosovo in line with European and international standards. It will help institutions consolidate the legal and institutional framework, strengthen independence, impartiality, accountability, professionalism, quality, efficiency and transparency of the judiciary, and will also improve access to justice for every citizen, especially for women and disadvantaged or marginalised groups”.
“Ambassador Szunyog stressed that an independent, impartial and professional justice system is an essential element for a democratic society, and that Kosovo citizens have every right to expect to have independent and professional institutions of rule of law in their service and that these institutions secure their civil rights and fight corruption and organised crime effectively”.
This project is implemented by the German Foundation for International Jury Co-operation (IRZ) as the leading partner along with project partners: Centre for International Jury Cooperation ( CILC, Holland) and Croatia's Justice Ministry”.
