After 32 great years, today is my last day as a member of Congress. It's been a vital honor to serve the people of Brooklyn and Westchester and I am eternally grateful that I was offered the opportunity to represent you in Washington. Thank you for giving me your faith”, and he wrote among other things Congresswoman Engel on Facebook.
He later posted the speech he delivered on December 17th.
Among other things in the speech, he also spoke about Kosovo and how Kosovo has a special place in its heart. Engel is known as a major supporter of Kosovo.
I have always had a special place in my heart for the Balkans and in particular, for Kosovo. In 1999, I strongly supported the intervention of Clinton Administration in the Balkans. We know we prevented genocide. Since then, I have been a supporter of Kosovo's sovereignty and independence. The state has made remarkable steps and is recognised by the US, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan and many other important states”, Engel said.
