The US, Kosovo and Serbia are nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize after the September 4th agreement reached at the White House in Washington.
The nomination was made by Swedish MP Magnus Jacobsson, who spoke for the first time about the reasons for such an act, writes news.net.
In an interview for the Serbian language portal, “Kosovo Online”, Jacobsson has confessed some parts of his family history, which connects with the Nobel Prize nomination.
My father worked in a refugee service and helped people from these areas. When I saw the meeting in Washington, I was happy to increase economic cooperation because this is a form of how a cool peace turns into warm peace”, he says.
He says he has not nominated either individuals or states but the governments of three countries, because according to him it is a greater achievement and story than individuals.
Jacobsson says he was in Kosovo earlier, but not in Serbia. The latter, he says, plans to visit him.
Jacobsson says he is close to Serbia, since his bride is of Serbian descent.
Asked whether he thinks that there can be political progress in Washington even between Kosovo and Serbia, he says he does not get involved in these issues, but that he considers that peace in the Balkans can be achieved through the economy.
I don't try to get involved in political issues, in debates. But I honestly think and believe that we can secure peace in the Balkans through the economy. Of course it will take a long time to reach an acceptable solution for all, but economic co-operation is the right form of how to continue”, he has said.
