A maximum of a thousand spectators will be allowed every day at Roland Garros, as the French government insisted on Thursday on stricter restrictions to prevent the spread of the coronary.
Organisers of the French Open, which starts four months later than planned, had hoped at a peak of five thousand.
Ronald Garros begins Sunday.
The border of a thousand fans represents less than three percent of last year's total turnout, which had nearly 520 thousand fans throughout the tournament.
This drastic reduction of fans will have major financial consequences.
