Their “Vota confirms one of the main pillars of our relationship -- mutual freedom of movement, stay and work in Switzerland and the EU. I welcome such a result and see it as a positive sign so that we can further strengthen and deepen our ties,”, she stressed in a statement.
About 1.4 million EU citizens live in Switzerland, and 450,000 Swiss live in the EU, and 320,000 EU citizens cross the border every day to go to work in Switzerland.
Leeyen added that she will soon talk to Swiss Confederacy President Simonetta Sommaruga.
I now expect the Swiss Federal Council to take quick steps to sign and ratify the institutional framework agreement we finalised in 2018,” said Ursula von der Leyeen.
For years, the EU has wanted to conclude an institutional framework agreement with the official Bern to simplify bilateral ties. In this regard there is no smaller reconciliation in Switzerland, neither in left parties nor in right.
