France and Greece reportedly have agreed today on the sale of 18 Rafare rifles with two engines for Greek Air Force, with the aim of reinforceing its positions in confrontations with neighbouring Turkey.
Greece currently owns early-generation F-16 American shooters, Mirage 2000 models and easier F-4E aircraft, while expressing interest in buying the latest anti-rader F-35 shooters, and F-16 upgrades.
But French shooters Rafare can be brought to Greece much faster than F-35, while France has more interest in boosting Greek defence and is also providing support to its navy in the Aegean.
Among France's stimulating landings for Greece are the delivery of eight of the free aircraft and the immediate supply of Rafale's shipment from the inventory of its air force.
Greek Air Force uses French shooter Mirage 2000, which is Rafale's direct predecessor and uses the same weapons and maintenance infrastructure.
On the other hand, Turkey has the world's largest fleet of American F-16s except for the US, as well as several other American shooters again. /tch
