In many parts of India, infants of the male gender are favored more than girls who because of the system there can be viewed as a financial burden to families.
But the villagers are fighting this prejudice.
There villagers celebrate the birth of their daughters by planting 111 trees for each baby.
The ritual began after Shyam Sunder Palwaal lost his teenage daughter and planted a tree in her honor. Today, he is leading the cause to ensure that Piplantr's daughters are protected from injuries and educated in order to grow up to become independent and fulfilled by themselves.
Trees are now becoming a source of beauty, maintenance and growth for girls and the village as a whole.
