Kosovo has been facing the worst health period since the pandemic show in recent months.
On Sunday, the National Institute of Public Health confirmed that in the last 24 hours, 13 people lost their lives, bringing the number of victims from the coronary to 249.
Within this period 245 new cases of affected by 468 tested have been confirmed.
The high number of those infected with COVID-19 and deaths from its consequences have raised health experts' concern.
Microbiologist Lull Raka, who also leads the advisory board for Avid-19, says that with current growth cases, Kosovo's health capacities are seriously endangered.
The main risk is overstepping or overloading capacity even management of current numbers from Kosovo health institutions that deal directly with the management of patients with COVID, be it at KKUK in Kosovo”, said Mr. Raka.
The National Institute of Public Health every day conducts about 400 to 500 tests for Ovidius, of which a very high number are positive with the virus.
And it would also be confirmed in the lab that we have massive spread and this by itself that maybe more tests we haven't done, but the number of hospitalizations and the number of deaths are other spare indicators that indicate that this is the reflection of massive population spread. The rise and overload of capacity is also the best indicator of the large number of deaths that are taking place daily are indications of massive spread in the community”, he said.
Kosovo has registered the first cases with COVIED-19 in mid-March and since then 8,799 people have been affected, half of whom have already recovered, while 3 thousand and 687 remain active cases.
Authorities are calling for caution because, according to them, Kosovo hospitals are facing capacity overload, as Kosovo currently has about 700 beds to treat the sick with COVID-19.
Mr. Raka speaks of the council his board has given Kosovo institutions to confront the current situation.
The first “recommendation has been that urgently the law against COVID be adopted because we have seen that one of the very important factors of increasing numbers in addition to not complying with simple measures from Kosovo citizens is also the strict supervision or control of state institutions to address this matter”, said Mr. Raka.
But Mr. Raka expresses himself against calls to completely close the place to prevent the spread of the virus.
It is the last option even though there are other options of exploiting state instruments I think that is no solution at the moment because it would cause much damage and the situation would not improve whenever after the release of measures or after such release if this trend continues and there is no strict supervision then there would be the same number”, he said.
Mr. Raka says Kosovo institutions should make preparations for the autumn season, as with current cases of contact with the coronavirus and seasonal flus could exacerbate the situation and harm even limited opportunities of health institutions.
