Kosovo's chief nurse was diagnosed with cancer, now she's struggling with Coddy-19.

Since the first cases of Coronavirus were presented, the medical staff was on the front lines in the face of battle with pandemic, not saving for a moment. Among them is Arta Sejdiu chief nurse at KKUK's Pulmology Clinic, one of the nurses who never stopped but worked up to 12 hours to help all patients lying in this clinic.

He has been a nurse for some 30 years, and during these years he has faced various challenges, but confronting Coronavirus is turning out to be among the most difficult that he is experiencing.

In a confession to the Eye.net Kosovo, Sejdiu talks about life, work in time of pandemic, and not alone.

The Golden Confession is different from others, since in addition to helping patients, she should take care of her health. She was diagnosed with carcinoma in 2018 and took two surgical surgery and extra radiation to improve. The effects of this disease have left its mark on Golden health. Today, she continues to receive treatment necessary to control her illness.

Despite this, she did not stop, she also continued to take over the pandemic, and in this form she risked her health just to help patients who are lying in Pulmology, but her mission now 13 days is impossible because she herself is infected with Coronavirus.

I work about 30 years in the Pulmology Clinic. During these years I have had nine work experiences, ranging from health to education! In 2018, I was diagnosed with carcinoma, which I haven't experienced so well, two operations, and during radiation, my kidneys have also been damaged, with which I still have trouble. I've got stages in both kidneys, second grade, so I have to have continuous controls and interventions almost every three months, because they have to change my kidney button, which causes me trouble, is followed by pain and sometimes with high fever. I also have hypertension, but with adequate therapy, I am able to improve my values. ”

“Because it's not long since I've been diagnosed with cancer, there's still fear in me that this thing can be repeated, and I can't deny the fact that I'm still afraid, especially now that we're living in pandemic times, which I didn't save! ”

Arta tells us how hard it is to work at this time.

This period has been difficult not only for me, but for all health workers and other professional collaborators. We've been facing pandemic for six months. During this time all of us have had a great burden, fatigue, commitment, and fear! In all these circumstances, we have worked hard to help and provide services for all who have been in need. Everyone's tired and exhausted. Just wearing protective clothing is a tiresome thing and let alone the 12-hour hard work, lack of staff, increased working hours and infected staff”.

We've been working and working on extra hours at this time and I can say that I haven't been home in the right time, and no weekend has been free, me and my colleagues”.

Art further shows that the lack of nurses has made it difficult for them to manage the situation, so they apologize to the citizens.

We all know that the manager does tasks through others, so I had to be ready for a proper organization and planning because of the small number of nurses, as a large, almost 70%, are infected. And on the other hand, we have an increase in beds, and the number of patients with a serious health condition increases. This period has been difficult to organise, but we've managed to combine with our clinic's foreign colleagues, and thanks to the unspoiled work of the clinic staff, we've achieved some, but not satisfactory! ...”

“ ...this time because of this serious situation created, I apologize to the people if we've managed to provide quality services, as this virus is infecting and taking lives from health workers. But with increased concern from the citizens and adhering to the established rules, I assure them that we're going to come together at”.

She also shows that there have been times when they had to choose which patients to help in advance.

Because of lack of staff, we have barely managed to provide services. Even patients have been irritated because the therapy has not been taken on time. There have been times when the priority was given the most serious case”.

I figured out for 13 days now, Arta shows how she experienced the moment when she realized it had resulted positive.

I haven't experienced it that hard, because it's been expected to get infected, like my 20 colleagues. We have had such conditions, but we have risked our health to help others. When I'm infected, I've been worried, every time I hear the cases that are losing the battle, it's just those who had other guardian diseases and I was one of them”.

Finally, Arta tells us how she is spending this time that is infected.

Now that I've done 13 days from test day, I feel better. It's not that it's been easy, but I've refrained from therapy, I've been careful enough, and I've tried not to deal with the disease, and only a small possibility if I've had something that helped me spend my time in solitary confinement and make it easier for myself. Drawing, conversations with people, garden, and reading have made me feel good”

So far in Kosovo, 8 doctors have died from Covid-19, while more than 800 of the medical staff are on their own.
