Kosovo police have been working longer than 12 hours since March, not even having the opportunity to take a day off as a kind of compensation due to the extension of the COVID-19 pandemic.
PK has been banned from their annual holiday. The police union has seen the police need this rest because it's a big load for them.
The head of the Kosovo Police Union, Valbona Kamberi, has cited some of the requirements that have addressed institutional leaders in meeting or resolving them.
She said that in an interview for “Zen” the Kosovo Police should also be paid 300 euros in addition. According to her, 40,000 members are on duty for 12 hours while mentioning the food issue where these were the two requirements addressed to the Government, but they still do not know whether they will be fulfilled.
And we're also directed at demand because if something is done for health workers and doctors who are actually engaged during the pandemic, why not for the Kosovo Police. We had 40,000 members up until about a week ago who were 12 hours in the healthcare inspectorate at work, but also during tasks that were police decisions. We have requested that this problem be resolved urgently, even with this additional 300 euros, and for members of police who are on duty for 12 hours and then the food compensation issue, so these two requirements have gone to the Government of Kosovo and we still don't know whether they will be realised or not, we have no information about this”, Kamber said.
According to Kamberi, if these requirements are not met, they will take radical measures while not exempting the protests.
We trust in the hope that these two requirements will be met because it is very difficult when police members work 12 hours and have nothing to do with food. Since medically it is easy, they may be able to take food and feed in the inner environment, but police are not allowed to carry various bags and bags during their hours of work. Although very vital and urgent demands, we have a small hope that both the food and the surplus will be realized to members of the police. But if that doesn't happen then the measures will be much more radical and we will probably even end up in protests because it's a lot of fatigue”, she said.
