US Secretary of State Mike Pompeii is staying for an official visit to Austria. Pomepo there has met with Austria's Foreign Affairs Minister, Alexander Schallenberg, with whom they have also discussed the Western Balkan region, and especially the work of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.
Schallenberg has confirmed this at the joint news conference, until he has announced that there will be further discussions for the Western Balkan region at the meeting they will have tonight.
Austrian top diplomat has said the US is an important partner to keep the Western Balkans region stable and to enable economic development.
“As far as the Western Balkans are concerned, an issue we will talk about again in the evening, because we will have more discussions. We consider the United States of America to be a very important partner for us to maintain the stable region and enable this region to have a productive economic development”, Schallenberg said.
The Austrian politician has said the US and Europe should stand side-by-side on the Kosovo and Serbia issue, in order to bring this part of the Balkans closer to the European Union.
We welcome the continued American engagement, and I just learned that there will be new talks between Pristina and Belgrade in early September in the US in Washington. This is something that the US and Europe have to work together, they have to stand side by side to bring this part of Europe closer to the European Union, Schallenberg stressed.
