Lebanon must carry out urgent fiscal reforms so that it can be introduced into assistance funds, the International Monetary Fund said after an international donor conference for Beirut hit by the blast disaster in the country's main port.
IMF Director Kristalina Georgieva is critical for “the lack of political will to adopt and implement necessary reforms”.
We are willing to double our efforts. But, we need unity in Lebanon, we need all institutions to unite to carry out much needed reforms”, Georgieva says.
“Aggression for these reforms will unlock billions of dollars in behalf of Lebanese people”, she adds.
The IMF is focusing on restoring public finance payment capacity, on safeguards to prevent capital inflows and losses stemming from state enterprises.
