Facebook has removed or restricted more than 10,000 groups, pages and accounts in the QAno-related Instagram, the latest social media platform attempt to combat increased conspiracy theories that affect users and the public in general, writes The Guardian.
Recent actions are the result of a shift in the company's policy towards movements that “have demonstrated significant risks to public safety”, but do not meet criteria for a complete ban, such as hate-producing groups.
Facebook has already removed more than 790 Qnon-related groups and 100 pages, it said Wednesday. The social network also blocked the Qanon's 300 hashtags and removed 1,500 ads.
The company has identified 1,950 additional groups, 440 pages and more than 10,000 bank accounts in the Qandan-related Instagram, which will be limited and can be removed but pending review.
The only reason a page or group has not been removed does not mean that it will not be subject to the removal soon,” said a company spokesman, who asked not to be identified for security reasons.
