Talks envision reaching an agreement allowing the European Commission to purchase 80 million doses of vaccine on behalf of all European Union member states, with the possibility of doubling after vaccines effectively result against COVID-19.
Modernna is the fifth company the Commission has concluded talks with, after Sanofi- GSC on July 31st, Johnson & Johnson on 13 August and CureVac on August 18th.
Talks with AstraZeneca have already led to the signing 14 August of a preliminary purchase agreement.
