Abidal with a genuine farewell message for Barcelona

Eric Abidal is not the technical director of Barcelona since Tuesday. It was a surprise to his resignation, as President Josep Maria Bartholomew had “named” in office only 24 hours ago. This Thursday, Abidal has written a long and frank farewell message to all Barcelona fans, explaining his decision, the goals he achieved two years ago and acknowledging that he failed to achieve what he determined to do when he became a technical director:

Dear barcelonist, I want to take advantage of these lines to say goodbye to everyone. I do this out of the deepest gratitude I have because I have shared two important stages of my life with you. One as player and the other as head of the Barcelona Technical Secretary. This second goodbye includes two years I've been trying to work on and do my best for Barca. Two intense seasons that ended with my decision. Although the board of directors ratified me in my position on Monday, I resigned last Tuesday.

Over the past two years, I have been trying to make changes that I thought were very important for the future of the first team. Despite my obedience and persistence, I have not succeeded. That's why I thought now was the time to end the deal with the club. I want to let you know that I gave up the last year of my contract that I still had with Barcelona.

Today the club situation is complicated, but you have no doubt that I sincerely wish I could overcome and the successes return quickly, as this big club deserves.
