Before leaving for The Hague, Thaci pays tribute at former President Rugova's grave

From there, Thaci said that today more than ever it takes to learn of President Rugova's wisdom and respect of blood shed for Kosovo.

He said that with respect for President Rugova and all those who gave their lives, he will leave for the Specialised Chambers, which he stressed created as a strategic decision, trust and respect for the US, NATO and the EU.

The head of state said he would return whenever he was there, despite the stated purity of other fighters.

Our task now is to face the effort in fighting Kosovo and its citizenship. Even on behalf of the resistance that brought to life Kosovo free and independent and democratic to convince Serbia itself to recognise our state. Today, more than ever, we need to learn the wisdom of President Rugova and respect of shed blood for Kosovo. Always honor and gratitude to the first president of Kosovo, as well as to all who gave their lives in peaceful resistance at first and then to the one armed to the end. With this respect and gratitude, I will head to the Specialised Chambers that we have created as a strategic decision of confidence, respect for the US, NATO and the EU, to return whenever they are from there with all the purity stated by other world fighters and my life for free and democratic Kosovo”, he said.

Near the grave of former President Rugova, Thaci said he is honouring the man who empowered the beginning of Kosovo's statehood. He said that in the history of the formation of states in the world, Kosovo enters rare cases that the path of state formation began from the idea of peaceful resistance and closed it in the Istikas of armed war.

Rugova's patience and clarity of peaceful resistance, as an impossible mission in time and context when it took shape, Thaci said he proved to the end the seriousness of this man in trying to lord the homeland with a completely original approach.

According to him, the truth is that without peaceful resistance, without that paved road that was both a starting point for him and fellow fighters would be difficult to continue in the path of armed resistance.

The “all of us who initiated objections against Belgrade in the early 1990s would not be so determined, so brave and so sure on our journey to freedom as if President Rugova's peaceful resistance had not preceded us. Peaceful resistance first convinced Kosovo Albanians that they could think and make their own state, even though the occupation seemed eternal. The same project convinced the West that Albanians were survivors, not observers, and that they would not agree with the genocide invasion from Belgrade. This political project made it more justifiable and more legitimate to start armed resistance as a historic act. The combination of peaceful resistance and armed struggle was the key to Kosovo's freedom and independence”, he said.

The first state of state said that today all should be proud that the start of Kosovo's statehood -- the inspiration of the liberation movement in Kosovo from peaceful resistance to armed resistance -- has been initiated by the need for freedom, peace for all its citizens.

“I have recognised President Rugova as a companion towards freedom, peace and independence. As two people with different opinions, but with one goal, Kosovo's freedom and independence. The more years pass, the more weight increases, my respect for our common history of freedom and construction state. The war on behalf of peace and human rights changed the world's view of Kosovo and publicly confirmed its right to a state where Albanians will rule together with minorities, not ruled by a single minority”, he said.

President Thaci will travel to The Hague tomorrow to be interviewed by the Special Prosecutor.
