U.S. presidential candidate Joe Biden, billionaires Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates are among the many prominent American figures that hackers have attacked on Twitter this week.
Looks like the attack had something to do with a digital currency scheme Bitcoin.
“loggers appear to have been compromised to make a digital currency fraud”, the FBI said through a statement and called on the public to be vigilant.
The hackers' messages called on other users on the social network to send Bitcoin coins, using a gibberish.
Twitter quickly removed such messages and said the attack was “co-ordinated”.
However, Bitcoin's wallets, linked to fraudulent posts, are said to have received more than $100,000 of the digital currency, the evening of July 15th.
The United States Senate Trade Committee asked Twitter to report Wednesday's 23 July incident.
