The European Union has welcomed the people of Northern Macedonia for voter turnout in the early 15 July elections, despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
Through a joint statement, High Representative Josep Borrell and Commissioner for Business and Enlargement Oliver Varhely stress that despite the fact that campaigns and voting were held in the right climate, legal stability was marred by substantial revisions of the legal framework and government-endorsed decrees.

“We expect to work with a powerful parliament and with a stable government coalition that will meet the country's strategic goal, EU integration and the fulfillment of the people's expectations”, it is written in the joint declaration of the two diplomats.
The EU promises that it will continue to support the country on its path to membership in the European family, but expects authorities to accelerate the implementation of integration-related reforms, especially in the areas of rule of law, the fight against organised crime and corruption, as well as in strengthening good neighbourly relations.
At the end of this statement, Varhely and Borrell say optimistic that the first Intergovernmental Conference with Northern Macedonia will be held very soon. /Euronews.al/
