The Red Boys have wanted to sign the German assailant after Liverpool withdrew from negotiations with RB Leipzig.
According to the medium Sky GermanyUnitedi actually submitted an offer to Werner in front of Chelsea.
But, the German source adds that Werner wanted a transfer to the London club because they made an offer potentially more profitable than Unitedey.
Blues reportedly agreed on a 200 thousand-pound deal a week with the 24-year-old attacker or 11.7m euros per year.
However, it is not just the money Werner was tempted to move to Stamford Bridge.
The German star is also excited to start with Blues and believes they are better positioned to qualify for the Champions League next season.
