US President Donald Trump on Wednesday rejected any proposal to reappointed US military bases bearing names to the leaders of the Confederate from the 1860 civil war, ignoring calls made after protests over George Floyd's death.
About 10 bases bear the names of the leaders of the Confederata, including Fort Bragg in North Carolina, one of the largest in the United States, as well as Fort Hood in Texas, reports VOA.
Ideas for their reconstruction have been dismissed as a way of racial reconciliation.
In a tweet, President Trump wrote: the United States of America's “has trained and dislocated on these sacred bases of our country, winning two world wars. So my administration won't even consider changing these great and famous military installations...”
Meanwhile, the White House said on Wednesday that it is giving the last hand to proposals for reforming police, in the continuation of protests that came after African-American George Floyd's death while under police arrest.
Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnanny said reducing immunity for police is an idea that cannot be considered.
Speaking at a press conference at the White House, she said the administration's plans to address protest concerns about police brutality are in the finalisation phase and that proposals can be made public at the next “”.
