American analyst and Balkan expert Daniel Serwer says it is difficult to reach agreement on mutual recognition between Kosovo and Serbia by the end of the year.
At the June 27th meeting at the White House in Washington, according to US President Donald Trump's special envoy for Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Richard Green, will be discussed only on economic issues.
This meeting at the White House between representatives of Kosovo and Serbia is seen as a good opportunity towards approaching the final agreement, but Daniel Cerwer, American analyst and expert for the Balkans, does not believe that on 27 June, economic issues will be discussed only.
Serwer in an interview for the Serbian portal “Kosovo Online”, says we should wait for what happens after 27 June, news broadcasts.
“I will be happy if they discuss economic issues such as removing non-tariff trade barriers and implementing technical agreements that have already been reached between Pristina and Belgrade”, Serwer has said among other things in this interview.
As for the issue of the correction of the borders and the statement of Yerenelli that this is an idea or the work of John Bolton, Serwer says the Trump Administration is not known for the truth.
If this is an attempt to wrap up border change talks, I welcome Mr. Greenell's statement because of identifying the correction of borders as a bad idea. However, this administration is not known for telling the truth. We'll have to wait and see what happens”, Serwer said, broadcast the news further.net.
But as for the final agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, Serwer says it is unlikely that agreement with mutual recognition could occur by the end of the year.
“Of course, you can have all sorts of agreements between Belgrade and Pristina prior to the US elections, that's what Green wants. However, an agreement on mutual recognition and entry into the UN is unlikely to be reached, which are big issues”, the American analyst stressed.
According to Serwer, if Trump loses presidential elections, he says the American approach to Kosovo will change.
The server says Joe Biden is flatly against any change of borders in the Balkans and as he is expected to be a very powerful supporter of Kosovo's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“Yes will change. Mr. Biden will be a staunch opponent of any changes in borders to accommodate ethnic differences in the Balkans and beyond. It will be a much stronger agent of Kosovo's sovereignty and territorial integrity than Mr. Trump, and will strongly support Serbia's EU bid, as well as US close co-operation with the EU in the Balkans and beyond”, he stressed.
