Protesters put a rope on this statue during today's day before it was knocked down until crowds cheered. Then they jumped on it and turned it around on the streets before throwing it into the Avon River, writes The Guardian, translating Periscope.
Historian David Olusoga explained the reason why this statue had so enraged people, comparing it with the destruction of Saddam Hussein's statue in Iraq.
However, American housing secretary Priti Patel called on police to take action in the case.
This bronze statue was installed in 1895, and it had angered the black communities in the United States after its character had been a slave merchant.
A petition to remove that statue had collected more than 11,000 signatures.
The Colstone company had transported more than 100,000 slaves from West Africa to the Caribbean and to America between 1689 and 1872. /Periscope
