Kevin-Prince Boateng has delivered a powerful message against racism, calling on footballers to take a stand because he believes many of them are afraid to do so.

Boateng had abandoned the area in protest when he was abused in racist bases during a friendly match for Milan in Italy in 2013, and since then has been very vocal in fighting racism in sports.

Barcelona's former football player, who now plays at Fiorentina in Serie A, has renewed his pledge to try to fight racism after George Floyd, a 46-year-old African, died after a white policeman shot him to the neck for a few minutes in the US Minneapolis on May 25th.

Floyd's murder has sparked fierce protests in the US and around the world, including in Great Britain, Germany, New Zealand, France and Denmark.

In an interview for Sky Sports after the protests, Boateng said: “Society should be inactive. Some players are afraid to talk. Racism should be taught in schools. ”

Asked how Floyd died, he added: “is a difficult situation. Besides being sad, I'm angry. It hurts when you always have to get back to the same feeling. I'm having a really hard time right now”

Asked how football is handling this issue, Boateng underlined: “What is football doing in general? Not much. A TV commercial or a banner when the teams enter the field is not enough. It's late already, but it's never too late. We just need to wake up from sleep”

Regarding the moment of 2013 when he was abused himself, Boateng stressed: “I am no longer a coward. That was when I was fed up, that was enough. I felt sad, angry, hated the world. I wanted to tell the world I wouldn't let them do this anymore. After what I experienced, after all that sacrifice. You won't judge me because of my body”
