FIGC is expected to veto Lega Serie A's suggestion of blocking Scouditto, falling and promotion in case the 2019/20 season is cancelled earlier.
A vote yesterday hit 16 of the 20 Serie A clubs in favour of the move, with four abstained.
It means that if the season ended prematurely because of the Codavi-19 pandemic, the 20 current Serie A clubs would remain as they are, without champion, without a drop in Serie B and therefore no promotion from Serie B.
Benevento Oreste Vigorito's president has already claimed to be “willing to do anything” in order to stop this, as this would prevent their promotion despite 20 points ahead of Serie B.
It has now been widely reported that FIGC (The Italian Football Foundation) will veto the simple idea of establishing current positions.
Other options include play-off to establish positions or using an algorithm to calculate sports merits.
