To achieve planned market cuts, Renault is also considering closing down several factories, AutoNews writes, citing local media.
Among the factories that can be closed is the one in Dieppe, which employs 400 workers.
Dieppe is home to the renovated Alpina sports brand, so the factory has produced a new A110 since 2017, a rival for Porsche 718 Cayman. However, Alpine A110 sales on the European market are under expectations.
According to the latest data before the coronary pandemic, only 61 cars were delivered to customers in February. In 2018 only 1,950 of these vehicles were sold, and last year 4,376 vehicles were sold.
Another endangered factory is in Flynn, near Paris, which opened in 1952. Flynn produces Renault Zoe electricity but also Nissan Micra.
Last year, the factory suffered a blow from Renault management after Clio model production was transferred to Slovenia and Turkey.
The two remaining French factories threatened with closure are Chausy-le-Roy with about 250 employees and Morbyan, where about 400 people work.
If all listed factories are closed, some Renault models are at risk. Besides the A110 Alpine, these are Megans, Coleos, Talisman, Scenic and Espace.
Earlier, Renault announced it aims to eliminate some models from its range, declaring the first to be Scenic, Espace and Talisman
