The 30-year-old was initially seen as Sebastian Vettelli's replacement at the Ferrari, which will leave the Italian company as well at the end of the year.
However, it has already become known that Vettel will be replaced by McClaren's pilot Carlos Sainz.
As Sainz's departure, McClaren managed to persuade Ricciardo to join the company for the next edition.
“Daniel Ricciardo is a witness pilot and with his experience he will help McClaren”, said company chief Andreas Seidl.
