Archie Williams, who was released last year, told the jury that he imagined himself in the show while watching him from prison.
He was charged with raping and stabning a 30-year-old white woman at her house in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 1982, even though his fingerprints were not found at the scene.
Three people also testified that Williams was home at the time of the crime, and that same year he was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Speaking at “America Ranchos Got Talent” he said: “I knew I was innocent, didn't commit a crime”
But being a poor black kid, I didn't have the ability to fight the state of Louisiana. ”

The singer received an ovation from both the jury and the public.
Elton John himself made a status on Tweet-er saying he was “affected up to tears” from performance, comparing William's spirit with that of Nelson Mandela.
Williams has described the performance as “matches for a life”.
