Shkelzen Gashi, former adviser to incumbent Prime Minister Albin Kurti, has indicated that he was interviewed by Croatian portal “Novosti”, regarding the circumstances of his dismissal.
He had said that a lynching campaign had been established against him following the statement in which he had said some members of the Kosovo Liberation Army have committed crimes against innocent civilians -- a stance that has sparked numerous reactions across the country.
Thus, it was primarily done against Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, of his foreign opponents who joined nationalists within his party, who define George Orwell well when he says: «nationalists not only do not accept crimes committed by their own selves, but they have miraculous abilities, not to say anything about them.
Because of this pressure, Prime Minister Kurti asked me to step down. I refused because I had spoken the truth - only truth and nothing but truth. So he freed me from office, but I don't believe he doesn't know that even individuals from KLA ranks, even in high positions, have been involved in crimes. Therefore, I cannot say that he freed me because we discern at this point. It was simply the way he decided to maneuver within the political turbulence that caused”.
Gashi for the Serbian portal “Novosst” stated that Dick Marty's report has no tendency to equate the crimes of Serbia's entire state machinery against Kosovo Albanians with the crimes of some KLA members against civilians.
“Kosovo's society should not deny that during the war in Kosovo, and especially after its end, individuals frustrated by the terrible crimes of Serb forces, and even members of the KLA, even in high positions, have been involved in the killings of civilians of different ethnic and political affiliations. Many prestigious international human rights organisations, previously reporting on human rights violations of Kosovo Albanians on the part of Serbian authorities, the killings of approximately 10 thousand civil Albanians, the rapes of thousands of women, the deportation of nearly one million Albanians, the burning and destruction of about 100,000 houses, and so forth,”.
There is no tendency in Dick Marty's report to equate the crimes of Serbia's entire state machinery against Kosovo Albanians with the crimes of several KLA members against Serb civilians and other ethnic and political affiliations. After all, these crimes cannot be compared. Apparently, the purpose of this report was not to silence these crimes. So, no. Dick Marty's report should not be seen as an anti-Albanian. It is simply a document reporting for crimes”.
Gashi further said special court should be used to clean Kosovo up from criminals
Some, to defend themselves, are trying to portray the Special Court as an attack on Kosovo's freedom struggle or on the KLA as an organisation. That's, you know, the softest, the nonsense. We have to use the Special Court to clean it up. U n CK and Kosovo by criminals, but also for the moral satifation of the victims' families and for the correction of criminals. I've always had a kind of reserve for the Special Court, that it could be used to blackmail Kosovo's politicians, but from the start I was a pro-founder of it, because justice must be imposed for the victims of all communities. We also send a message to the evental armed conflicts, let's hope and work never to happen, that anyone who committed crimes against the civilian population will be punished”.
“Investigation and accusations are not directed at the KLA, but against individuals. The KLA was not a criminal organisation, but unfortunately, individuals from the KLA ranks, high-ranking even, according to US prosecutor Clinton Wilson, have (wrongly) used the KLA's weapons and infrastructure to commit crimes. The fact that senior KLA officials have been involved in crimes does not make all members of the KLA criminals, as if the fact that political leaders who ruled Kosovo for two decades are corrupt does not make all of Kosovo's people corrupt. KLA members must distance themselves from individuals who have been involved in crimes”, Gashi has said.
