After announcing the state of pandemic, when people were closed at home and started online meetings, conferences and learning, Zoom, video conference platforms and other <x0). Virtual” collections turned into one of the most mentioned names. It promoted Facebook and Google competition who are trying to take advantage of Zoom.
Last week, Facebook introduced the Messenger Rooms, which does not look for a Facebook account and allows 50 people at the meeting. This week, Google reported that Google Mayt will allow 100 people. Both technology giants said that participants could stay on video as long as they wanted, while in comparison, Zoom allows for 100 people up to 40 minutes of meeting.
To measure success, Zoom focuses on meeting attendance, conferences, meetings, and online instruction. Last week, the platform had 300 million people every day, up from 200 million in March. Google Meet had 100 million participants, while Facebook did not publish the figures, but it said that the platforms owned by the company, Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger, have counted 700 million videos per day.
Facebook is likely to prevail. The company has a history of cases when it took the most successful things of competitors to have on the platform; we remember that Instagram Stories (owned by Facebook) were based on Snapchat. After that, Snapcha's popularity weakened. It is hard to say, though, that the same fate awaits Zoo.
