It'll be Carlos Sainz junior Sebastian Vettel's replacement at the Ferrari wheel starting in 2021. In anticipation of the official announcement, the Spaniard, son of the former caste champion with whom he shares the name of baptism, has been chosen by Maranello to be Lecler's supportive pilot.
The 25-year-old from Madrid will leave McLaren where he arrived in 2019. Sainz has debuted on F1 in 2015 with Toro Rosso before moving to Renault in 2017. He's been in total at 102. GP.
In his achievements, there is a third country won in Brazil last season, when he recorded his best positioning overall, closing 96 points. Now Vettel can take his place right to McLaren.
Sainz was preferred by Ferrari in front of Daniel Ricciarddo and Antonio Giovinazi, who were candidates to take the seat at the Italian team. Of course, the dream could be Hamilton, but the Ferrari has decided to believe in Leclerc, with two super pilots on the same team.
