Sigal Pristina, Rahoveci, Golden Eagle Star and Peja are the teams to represent Kosovo in Albania's joint basketball league, expected to begin at the end of September or early October. The Kosovo Basketball Federation (FBK) has assigned the first four teams to the table of this cancelled edition as participants in the joint league with Albania.
The FBK board days ago held the meeting through video conference, where it even assigned teams. In fact, officials of these teams who have fully agreed with participation in the common league with Albania have also attended this meeting. FBK Secretary General Elvira Dushku confirmed this Friday for the newspaper Time.
The FBK has already sent the names of its teams, as well as the joint league project at the Albanian Basketball Federation (FSHB), which will in a few days give its comment to formalise everything. The FSHB must be determined for the four participating teams from Albania before signing the contract with the FBK.
The contract signing is expected to take place in the early days of next month, with which the project in which it has been worked intensively recently will be confirmed. This league is estimated to serve for the establishment of basketball quality in both states. “We have held the meeting through videoconferencing even with the first four teams, which have not only agreed to participation, but also enjoyed the idea of common league with Albania.
We made the project and sent it to the Albanian Federation along with the names of the teams. We are waiting for their comment until Monday, in which they will appoint their participating teams”, Dushku has indicated.
“Once this is done, we will sign the agreement by early June, as our goal is to start with competitions in late September or early October, depending on the situation with the COVID-19”.
According to Dushku, the common league will be the regular championship, which will not prevent national competitions. She says the league will have eight teams, which will compete for the champion title. Indeed, Dushku has discovered that the common league with Albania will be in compensation for teams from Kosovo in terms of participation in European cups for the new edition.
