FIFA World Cup Juless Rimet, December 19, 1983, is stolen in Brazil.
In 1970 the Brazilian team won the cup for the third time, allowing itself to keep the original golden cup forever, as had been determined by its first chairman FIFA, Jules Rimet, in 1929.
The cup was held on display at the headquarters of the Brazilian Football Confederate in Rio de Janeiro in a lead - resistant glass cabinet.
On December 19, 1983, the back of the cabinet was split with a lever, and the cup was stolen.
Four people were sentenced in absentia. The cup has not been found as it is believed to have melted, turning into bars or gold plates.
