Today marks the 4th anniversary of the accession of the Kosovo Football Federation to Europe's largest football home, UEFA.
On May 3, 2016, at the convention held in Budapest, UEFA ended the isolation of Kosovo football, acknowledging Kosovo as its 55th member.
With the faith of 28 member states, 24 votes against and 2 abstentions, Kosovars realised the dream they had been waiting for for many years. Kosovo football was internationalised in Budapest, despite a fierce campaign by our northern neighbour. The work of the legendary FFK president Fadil Vokrri was crowned there.
Following UEFA's accession and the phenomenal work of hero Fadil Vokri, the national of Kosovo would turn for several more heroes. Initially, it was Albert Bulnjak, who is considered the architect of the nationals who did an unspoiled job of approaching players and building a foundation for the Dyrdians. Names known as Samir Wolfani, Valon Berisha, Milot Rasica, Bersant Celine and others would unite Kosovo in the years to come.
Worldir 2018 qualifications would not do well for the national of Kosovo, which at the time was only taking the first steps in international football. With just one draw in the qualifications, Albert Bönjak decided to give up the coach's post to leave the line of Bernard Challande, the man who is still at the top of the bench today who is doing a great job.
Kosovo would continue its adventure now in another competition, which, like our nationals, was new to European football. It's about the League of Nations, where Kosovo won the hearts of many football fans thanks to phenomenal presentations.
In a group consisting of Azerbaijan, the Faroe and Malta Islands, Kosovo came out first in the group, providing the semifinals of the D League, where it is already alive to dream of a ticket to Euro 2020.
Historically in these four years were the Euro 2020 qualifyingists, where Kosovo, in a national event with experience such as England, Chekhia, Montenegro and Bulgaria, succeeded in positioning in third, the result was extremely positive even though it did not bring about the qualifications.
Apart from successes with Kosovo nationals, following accession to U EFA, an upgrade, also marked local league football. Teams like Pristina, Drita, the Trepca 89 Fernikel had the opportunity to play international matches, valid for qualifications towards the League of Champions and League of Europe, where they did not score any major success, but turnout was only success, given that experience was missing.
Four years of admission to U EFA, Kosovo football, aims to crown with a qualifications at the European Championship, which could come as early as March if it were not for the choreographer. The semi-final of the League of Nations against Northern Macedonia and a possible finale with Georgia's winner Belarus could give Kosovo the ticket for Euro 2020. The best possible gift for the fourth anniversary of UEFA accession.
