Scientists have expressed confidence in their ability to succeed soon, increasing hopes worldwide that they will not have to be expected until next year for a vaccine. The first vaccine injections by Oxford University's Jenner Institute in Britain were held last week. Scientists are planning to massive their testing in just over a month -- a time frame that is currently faster compared to other vaccine development efforts.
The New York Times reported on Monday that scientists plan to test their vaccines to more than 6,000 people by the end of May.
The Oxford team said their goal is to produce a million doses of the vaccine, if they result, by September, months before a standard deadline of 12-18 months quoted repeatedly by health professionals worldwide.
Professor Sarah Gilbert, leader of the program team, said she is “80% safe” that the vaccine will work/
