COMM STT gains equal rights with counterparts in Europe
Europe's Transmission Systems Operators (which operate within the ENTSO-E) positively voted the key agreement with the System, Transmission and Electricity Market of the Republic of Kosovo (KOSTT). With this agreement, COSTT receives obligations and equal rights with other European operators.
This new agreement will enable operation as a single energy bloc between Kosovo and Albania. Interconnection, the 400Kv line between us will be functional. The German government helped and invested over 75m euros through KfW. But for more than six years, this line could not be functional.
As internationally recognised operators, COSTT will have access to cross-border mechanisms that create easier access to the regional market for our operators. This will reflect on additional revenues for COSTT. Our direct losses from non-participation in international mechanisms amount to up to 8m euros a year, while indirect losses are estimated to be even higher.
The entry into force of this agreement precedes a series of activities, primarily technical, for which we have full confidence that they will be fulfilled in a short period of «.
This presents a major achievement for our Republic, and I find the opportunity to thank all European operators who voted for this agreement.
Expressing gratitude for the job done, we expect COSTT full dedication in regional processes to contribute to safe energy supply. Likewise, COSTT and OST of Albania have already signed operating agreements as an energy block, an agreement preceding today's vote, so more significant steps must follow.
