As it becomes known, more than 47800 residents were without electricity, according to Nashville Electric Service, who said his four substations were damaged.
Last “Night reminded us of how fragile life is”, Nashville Mayor John Cooper said at a press conference Tuesday morning.
Meanwhile, the death toll rose to 22 on Tuesday, said Tennesse Emergency Management spokesman Maggie Hannan, as police and fire crews spent hours drawing survivors and corpses from broken buildings.
It is possible that the death toll can continue to rise as authorities explore the walled landscape and roofed down, broken power lines and large fallen trees.
While Tennessee Governor Bill Lee also said that a number of people are still missing and about 156 are hospitalised.
