Kosovo President Hashim Thaci has said that Kosovo and Serbia are close to signing the final agreement, which he says will bring peace and perspective to the entire Western Balkan region.
Thus, Thaci has spoken for the first time since his return from the United States, where he had meetings between him, the Serbian president and senior American officials, National Security Councillor Robert OyBrien and Ambassador Richard Green.
These comments he made at the conference Public Dialogue “en route to the Commission for Truth and Appliance in Kosovo”.
Kosovo is developing an important process. We are committed to reaching the permanent, peaceful agreement between Kosovo and Serbia. This agreement should bring recognition between our independent and sovereign countries and faster travel to Kosovo towards NATO and the EU. The Washington meeting two days ago, between the two presidents of Kosovo and Serbia, I believe it will be meeting a positive turn, initiated by President Trump and Ambassador Green for reaching the agreement in the near future. The meeting is good for the entire region, for opening up the Euro-Atlantic perspective for the Western Balkans, for a better life, for an economic development. Therefore, from Washington both Kosovo and Serbia should exploit and all parties that are interested in peace in the Balkans. It is of vital importance for the process of reaching the final agreement that both Kosovo and Serbia today have confidence in the US that the final agreement can be reached through them. Although we are talking about Kosovo and Serbia, also about the possibility of achieving peace among our countries, I am convinced that this agreement will affect the work of this Commission”, President Thaci has said.
