The chairman of this union, Yusuf Azemi, said that safety and health at work are really in serious condition, this year a worker has lost his life in the workplace.
Azem has also asked Prime Minister Albin Kurti to raise the minimum wage to 350 euros in the country, as he has stated in recent days. The minimum wage currently is between 130 and 170 euros.
“The union requirements for the Government of Kosovo are: On 1 May, it will be signed the minimum wage of 350 euros. We propose to the prime minister, I'm writing today, I'm afraid he's saying he's willing to pay the mine, not to pump and protest... We invite all companies, from now on, not to sign contracts with state institutions, but also workers themselves, under 350 euros' salary, because otherwise we will not work”, Azemi said.
Azem, among other things, has demanded that the number of inspectors initially increase by 200 inspectors, as well as the working conditions in the private sector improve.
“Sygurity and work health is extremely serious, that we have no reason neither union nor government that has done anything. This year is a little more positive, because in previous years in the same period of this year, there has been much more death. We pray that no one will ever happen again, but by the easy way, in the first two months of this year a case of death in the workplace, which is a serious case for us”, he stressed.
Last year, some 22 workers lost their lives in the workplace.
