Festival organisers say it was the town of Austin that made the final call to cancel events next week, even though the Public Health Office in Austin said just days ago that “has no evidence that the closure of SXSW or any other meeting will make the community safer “, it broadcasts Indesksonline.
During the past week, several companies began withdrawing from the festival, and the talents also began to give up the presentations. The festival was to take place from March 13th to March 22nd.
This situation evolved rapidly, and we honor and respect the decision of Austin City. We are committed to doing our part to help protect staff, attendees and other Austins”, the festival statement said.
“We are exploring options to fix the event and working to provide a virtual SXSW online experience as soon as possible for 2020 participants, starting with SXSW EDL.”
It is noteworthy that the official statement by the SXSW team makes no mention of Coronavirus, though it is clear that this is the reason for the annulment. /Indesksonline/
