Former director of the Kosovo Economic Ode (OEK) Safet Gerjaliu, in an interview for Online Economy, has said that Coronavrius is introducing Kosovo into an economic crisis.
But according to him, this pandemic is a continuation of the political crisis, taking on the basis of the non-formation of more time institutions and exceptionally adopting the budget for this year.
Kosovo has entered crisis and Coronavirus is only a crisis from the political and economic crises which has been passing Kosovo since the 6 October 2019 crisis, the very fact that we have had an institutional prolongation and in this direction is utopik to think that a budget what has been adopted in the Kosovo Assembly under extraordinary circumstances is common for economic development”.
And the fact that from the past we have a lot of started and unfinished projects and numerous governments can best testify that, however, it's going to be much more social than of the developmental nature”, he said.
The budgetary division under Gerjaliu, which does not give priority to building highways, could be a guarantee of development.
Speaking of economic development, Gerjaliu says the guarantee should be the private sector.
“What makes this budget unique is that it is not given priority to highways and roads that benefit from tenderomania and the biggest beneficiaries are certain interest groups, but it has an address to have an education, social stability health and, above all, education, and I believe that in this direction it will have its own effects, but it should not be expected of miracles from this budget that will be in a pompous manner oriented in development and economic sustainability”.
“Granci of economic development should be the private sector, until we have policies that will be functioning private sector development then we'll talk about economic stability but we'll be far away from”, he said of EO.
As for US statements on the removal of the tax on Serbian and Bosnian goods, the former head of the Economic Ode says they must be heard.
It says that recommendations from friendly states should be analysed with maturity, without emotion and without population.
The “does not live by popularism, partnership with the United States and European countries is of strategic importance. The truth is that Kosovo is the product of diplomacy in particular of the United States and at this time challenges to experiment with reports with the US and friendly states is a luxury that Kosovo does not have”.
“The recommendations of the friendly states should be analysed with maturity without popularity and be in the function of building the power of the state of Kosovo”, he said.
