Albanians dawned on Monday this week with news that two cases of citizens affected by coronavirus were discovered, something that appears to have caused panic.
The scenes that were previously seen in the supermarkets of Itlai, England, and in a number of other European countries were repeated even here in long lines, originally in supermarkets in the morning hours, as the flow fell over dinner hours but again, as Monday was not normal.
Elona Hametaj, Executive Director of the Spar Albania supermarkets network told “Monitor” that there has been an increase of 300% of sales, atopik this for the first day of the week and not only at the integrated points within the neighbourhoods but also in hypermarkets near the malls. She stressed that there is no room for panic and that all measures have been taken to cope with this situation.
We've had a 300 percent increase in sales on our supermarkets network. We want to stress that there will be no price change, there won't be shop closures and there's no product missing so people need to relax. All measures have been made for this situation, as what happened to other countries earlier took place” underlined Hamataj.
The panicsome shopping of these days resembles the same volume purchases as those that occur at the holiday season, at least that's how it describes the situation created these days.
Average shopping bills have been above the usual for a good part of individuals as the focus has been on buying flour, pasta, oil, sugar, water and detergents.
The same situation was reported by the supermarket network “Big Market” where purchases were again focused on basic products.
Agri food market, “fly” oranges
One of the constant emphasis doctors have placed on care these days has been that of the consumption of vitamin C.
It seems that under panic except for the growing demand supermarkets there were also on Monday in Tirana's Agrofood Market, located next to the Tirana-Durra Highway just below Casa Italy's overpass.
Businessmen questioned by “Monitor” said there was an increase in sales that was similar to a Saturday at least for citizen purchases and not a majority supply, while the largely orange agrum was bought no longer by a kilo but with crates.
Sales increase has also been in other fruits and vegetables.
Next stop in the pharmacy
Capital pharmacies have reported an increase in demand Monday for vitamin C, alcohol, and other treatments taken in cases of normal flu. Among other things, it seems that citizens have sought to take steps for medication on headaches, or mild sedatives. Earlier demands were high for masks a request that remains.
Under this situation pharmacists questioned by “Monitor” explained that citizens have been recommended that if they have concerns not to appear near a pharmacy or be self-jected but communicate with the emergency number or appear near health centres where they can receive help and specialized thought.
